Description

Sarah's Choice F1 hybrid cantaloupe consistently tops taste tests for its rich, sweet flavor and juicy texture. Expect attractive oval fruits weighing 3–4 lbs with thick orange flesh, heavy netting, and no sutures on the rind. The plants are productive, vigorous, and show good resistance to powdery mildew (races 1 & 2) and Fusarium wilt (races 0, 1, & 2). Ideal for home gardens, raised beds, or containers (use large pots if growing in limited space).

Transplanting Instructions

  1. Harden off your 3" potted plants for 7–10 days before planting by gradually exposing them to outdoor conditions (start in shade, increase sun and time outdoors daily).
  2. Transplant outdoors only after all danger of frost has passed and soil temperatures are consistently 65–70°F or warmer (usually late spring/early summer).
  3. Choose a sunny location with fertile, well-drained soil (pH 6.0–7.0). Amend with plenty of compost or organic matter for best results.
  4. Plant at the same depth as the pot, spacing 24–36" apart in rows 5–6 ft apart. For vertical growing, provide a sturdy trellis or support.
  5. Water deeply and consistently at the base of the plant (avoid wetting leaves to prevent disease). Keep soil evenly moist, especially during flowering and fruit development—about 1–2 inches of water per week.
  6. Mulch around plants with straw or organic mulch to retain moisture, suppress weeds, and keep fruit clean.
  7. Fertilize with a balanced organic fertilizer at planting and again when vines begin to run.

Watch for fruit to slip easily from the vine and develop a sweet aroma—usually 76 days from transplant. Harvest at peak ripeness for the best flavor!
