Description
Ivy Leaf Geraniums are a gardener’s favorite for their graceful, cascading growth habit and nonstop blooms. Unlike upright zonal geraniums, these trailing Pelargonium peltatum varieties feature glossy, ivy-shaped leaves and semi-double flowers that spill beautifully over pot edges. Transplanting Instructions
- Wait until all danger of frost has passed (typically mid-to-late May in northern Utah).
- Gently remove the plant from its 3" nursery pot and loosen the root ball slightly.
- Plant in well-draining potting mix or garden soil amended with compost. For hanging baskets or window boxes, use a lightweight, moisture-retentive mix.
- Place in a spot receiving full sun to partial shade. Water thoroughly after planting and keep soil evenly moist (but not soggy) during establishment.
- Fertilize every 2–3 weeks with a balanced liquid fertilizer high in phosphorus to encourage abundant blooms. Deadhead spent flowers regularly for continuous color.
- In hot summer weather, provide afternoon shade and water daily if in containers – they love consistent moisture but hate wet feet.
