Description Black Beauty Zucchini is a 1957 All-America Selections winner and one of the most popular heirloom summer squashes. Known for its rich, dark-green skin and mild, nutty flavor, this variety produces smooth, straight fruits that are tender and delicious when harvested young (6–8 inches long). The compact bush habit makes it ideal for smaller gardens or containers, and the plants are incredibly prolific — one plant can yield dozens of zucchinis over the season!

Great for grilling, sautéing, baking into zucchini bread, or spiralizing into zoodles. These healthy 3" potted plants give you a head start on the growing season compared to seeds.

Transplanting Instructions

  1. Harden off plants for 7–10 days by gradually exposing them to outdoor conditions (start with 1–2 hours in shade, increase time and sun exposure daily).
  2. Plant after all danger of frost has passed and soil temperature reaches at least 60°F (usually mid-to-late spring in Utah).
  3. Choose a sunny spot with well-draining, nutrient-rich soil (amend with compost). Space plants 36–48 inches apart.
  4. Dig a hole slightly larger than the pot, gently remove the plant, and set it at the same depth it was growing in the pot. Firm soil around the base and water deeply.
  5. Mulch around plants to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Water consistently (1–2 inches per week); avoid wetting foliage to prevent disease.
  6. Harvest fruits regularly when 6–8 inches long to encourage continuous production.
